Human Energy

Transform mechanic energy of human body into electric energy and use that energy to:
1. Benefit on yourself (health/exercise, discounts in green stores..)
2. Benefit to your community (saves energy and use that money to improve the city into a sustainable one)
3. Benefit the planet (less pollution and sustainable cities)

The Pitfall Crosswalk

2009-12-16 14:28 - 0 Kommentarer

The Pitfall Crosswalk is inspired by classic Atari game Pitfall. The idea is to make it fun for people to cross the street in the right places. In cities such as mine, Rio de Janeiro, people have made dangerous crossing a habit. My wish is to influence people for their own good. Inskickad av Rafael Medeiros

Guess the Right Weight

In cities we encounter the problem of drivers not stopping at pedestrian crossings if there's no red light. This idea will prove that encouraging drivers with a little fun test results for the better and many more will stop. The idea is very simple: drivers are encouraged to guess the right weight of the pedestrians that are waiting to cross the street. When a pedestrian is waiting to cross, a big sign could be read by the drivers. This will say: Guess the Right Weight. The driver will stop to see if he/she can guess the weight of the pedestrian or pedestrians that are about to cross.

Have you ever notice that: when people open the tap, do they use the water or just do something like brush their teeth or stylish their hair but open the tap without conscious. They just unconsiously waste the water resource. We need something can remind them: you should be awareness of saving the water. We would like to design a tap built in a “bomb”. When people open the tap, they must wash their hands and turn off it within 7 seconds. Otherwise, the led display shall show explosion and sound serious warning.

Thermochromic Hand Dryer

The thermo chromic hand dryer is a simple and fun way to indirectly increase participation in hand washing via adding an element of fun at the secondary stage – hand drying. Adding thermochromic paint to the metal parts, most notably the directional nozzle, will induce a visible and spectacular colour change as hot air comes into contact with the metal upon a user activating the hand dryer. The engaging effect is similar to that produced by thermocolour t-shirts and thermochromic mugs.

Bored with your music? Plug your headphones into the radio system and listen to other people's music. Or DJ your own tracks and get talking with other listeners. If someone tunes into to your show, your light flashes. The more people you have listening, the hotter your light's colour. If you like what you hear, why not say hello to your DJ, they're sitting on the same bus!

Happy flu-fighting masks

The mobility of people around the world is unimaginable nowadays. People manage to travel across countries and continents within hours with lowest rates ever. Does this bring only benefits? Not really - as it was recently shown by the spread speed of the swine-flu disease. One of the methods to fight similar illnesses is to wear a flu-fighting mask. However, opinion polls show that only 5% use this protection method, while more than 36% think that people wearing these masks look like hypochondriacs.

Little things can make a big difference. So when a group of people join to spare our planet's resources, even if for a brief moment, that makes a huge difference. We spend too much of our planet's energy and so little of ours, that doesn't seem fair. So mix sedentarism and energy consuming, add a bit of fun to it, and we bake a fresh new idea. Just out of the oven: Cine Eco. This ecological wave claims for new ecological ideas. Movies have become one of peoples favorite pastime.

Sometimes people forget about bicycles. But cycling could be more funny and attractive mean of transport. Small changes of our ordinary cycling paths could encourage a lot of people to choose bicycle as the main transport mean to go to work, shops or somewhere else. The path should be interactive, interesting and "new" every day. How could the cycling path be transformed? Here are few solutions that can be combined and used in a different places of the path: 1. Changing jokes every day on the board above the path; 2.

Peacocks for Posture

"Sit up straight!" Everybody knows those nagging words, and how annoying it can be to be constantly reminded about your posture. But good posture is important for presenting a positive outward appearance and for strengthening back muscles towards better health. So how can we make sitting up straight more FUN? With our Peacocks for Posture proposal, sensors are embedded in the back of a chair to detect the sitter's posture. Peacock feathers are mounted to a motorized system on the back of the chair. If the sitter is slouching, the peacock feathers remain folded up.

Fighting Germs with Fun

One of the most common ways that illnesses such as flu are spread is through the germs on our hands. Hand sanitization is therefore a simple way to help prevent transmission of illness. Universities and restaurants in our area have installed hand sanitizers to help encourage hand cleaning, but few people actually use them. As a result, illnesses can rapidly spread across university campuses. We decided to apply the Fun Theory to this problem by testing whether we could get more people to sanitize their hands by making it fun.

Gotcha - Overspeeding Device

Imagine every car you see on road is fitted with a little device I would like to name “Gotcha”!! This is like a black box which is hidden away in every car (will be good fun trying to find it!) . “Gotcha” is nothing more than a combination of receiver and sender unit with inbuilt GPS. The receiver unit of “Gotcha” receives a signal from a tower (similar to mobile network tower) which constantly sends road speed and location data to all vehicles in its range.

The Kwik-E-Green Project

2009-12-16 20:32 - 0 Kommentarer

How can we reward people who stay for the green light and also get them to interact in the mean time?
In a busy crosswalk we often tend to be impatient for the cross light to turn green. But crossing a red pedestrian light can be dangerous.

Our solution: The Kwik-e-Green!

The Kwik-e-Green is a square made out of six pairs of green feet shaped panels with sensors underneath, placed at the side of the curb. When six people stand on the panels the sensors react on the weight pressure of the people and instantly rewards them with a Kwik-e-Green light for them to pass the crosswalk

Fight children obesity by motivating the children to exercise and save energy. When the children watch TV they do no exercise at all plus the added calories from the junk food they are eating. The TV plugs in to a motion sensor, if the children is moving the TV stays on, when the children stops moving the TV goes off. This way the children exercises and makes it very hard to eat junk food, also they save energy because the TV turns off when no one is in the room.

Currently most sustainabile responses are focused on land where we can monitor the proposed changes, while the water which covers 70% of our Earth’s surface tends to be neglected. Since the phytoplankton growing within the oceans provides 50% of Earth’s photosynthesis, ocean vitality is paramount for all life. Already we have lost 30% and 14% of phytoplankton in the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans respectively since the 80s. Specifically, we must counteract the damaging effects of excess carbon dioxide and acidification from our polluting habits.

The Smile Machine

Keeping a happy outlook towards each other is hard in these stressful times. We propose to create a magic mirror to reflect and enhance people’s daily expressions. Our invention is a digital camera with smile detection software, linked to a projector behind a mirror. The display will show the visitor walking by, just like any mirror. But if the visitor stops and looks, a red smile line will be drawn on his or her image, reminding them that it’s up to everyone to inspire each other with fun and good cheer! Can you make people recycle more paper? What if the paper you would bring to the recycle bin could be weighted and a discount ticket to buy more paper would be printed according to the amount of paper recycled? This could reduce the amount of paper needed to be produced.

Treadmill Racing Track

2009-11-07 21:09 - 0 Kommentarer

Treadmills and exercise bikes at the gym are a great way for people to work
out regardless of the conditions outside. The problem is that they're boring
and monotonous, and there's no incentive to push yourself (unlike running
outside, when there's always someone to try to catch up to).

The solution: Treadmill Racing.

Network a series of treadmills and exercise bikes so that each one knows how
fast its user is running/pedaling in relation to the other users. Project
this data on a big-screen "track" in the front of the gym so that the gym
