As a society, we are disengaged from our future (i.e. we don't work together to bring about social change more often and more forcefully). We also strongly believe that the main reason for this is the fact that we are built to discount issues that we are not immediately connected with (either in terms of time or in terms of location). What we propose is that we use technology to break down this artificial barriers we create in our mind between us and our future and between us and the rest of the world.

Break Down Social Barriers

2009-12-23 13:32 - 0 Kommentarer

Ticket: "Buy None Get Two Free (ice-creams) - For you and a homeless friend". Give to those who wouldn't normally speak with a homeless person. The enticement and mutual enjoyment of a free ice-cream each may help break down the social barriers and get them talking. It would then have long lasting benefits, for the cost of just a few ice-creams.

Basketball Recycling Bin

2009-12-16 21:44 - 0 Kommentarer

This recycling bin uses the sport of basketball to attract users. Everyone loves throwing trash at a trash can anyway, so why not make that the point of the can, rather than a side product? It will not only bring more use to the recepticle, but also make users more concerned about missing, and make them want to retry a bad shot, instead of leaving trash on the floor. The hoop, over the recepticle can also be oversized to help prevent missing.

Leaves Leaves

The trees make the best patterns with their leaves. And then the kids, longingly, watch them through their car windows as they pass by. They imagine how big a leaf pile that many leaves could make. And the workmen & women, with their face masks and their heavy blowers 'clean up' the walkway and neaten the park with the sharp buuuuzzzzzz in the mourning aire, while the businessperson walks past, smelling the crisp tang of fall and gasoline and fried electric circuits. Blah. No fun.

The first time I gave blood it was scary. I went alone. I wasn't prepared. I had always wanted to do it...but I was shaking, a little. & I was silly; I didn't leave myself enough time. I skipped breakfast. I was going to walk to pick the kids up from school. Seriously silly. The next time it was easy. By the 3rd time, I was bored. Saving a life is a cinch when you're not scared. I thought maybe I could go in for the longer donation with the platelets or whatever it is...but, I'd need a book. My husband always goes with me now so it's really not so scary.

Giggle-Tickle Stress Bracelet

2009-12-16 21:08 - 0 Kommentarer

Most of us struggle with stress. Stress sucks. We feel like it creeps up on us. But it’s hard to fix before it kicks in. We feel like we need to keep it to ourselves. But then we feel alone dealing with it. And all this stresses us out more. Understandably. What if “stress tools” were; positive ideally, humorous? Powerful part of a bigger movement? Present prompting our constant awareness and action? Private when we need and want to be discreet? Public when we need and want support? So like, what if a bracelet could help us learn to de-stress every moment?

A Book at Every Bus Stop

Imagine that you never had the time to read. You forgot what it was like to absorb a new book. & your friend Jodi, at work, never reads. Imagine you get so tired driving home you’re worried about your reflexes & so irritated fighting traffic in the morning your blood pressure is going up. And you watch the dark, billowing cloud coming out of your exhaust pipe like it’s eating away at the clean air all around your house. Imagine that you wanted to relax, slip into another world, learn something, play, imagine.

Airport International Lingo

Most airports provide an automatic walkway for people to either rest as they head towards their gate or get there a bit quicker when walking. Unfortunately, these too require the use of much electricity by keeping them running all day, every day. As someone who is interested in other languages myself, I believe that there are many people out there who are as well and would take the no-walkway route to hear some phrases in different languages.

Washed up Prize Club

Not many guys wash their hands coming out of a public washroom. I think if it was more fun than people would do it all the time and it would promote good hygiene. I think that the taps should play music while they are washing their hands and if the wash them for the correct amount of time (minimum of 15 to 20 seconds of lathering) then a prize drops out of a slot for them. This could be a mint or something like that. Just an idea.

Bag to Basics

2009-12-16 20:57 - 0 Kommentarer

Choose Paper Bags over plastics- period. Let's get everyone on board, that is, retailers, grocery stores, and companies large and small who advertise coupons-- have them utilize paper bags for advertising/printing coupons. It will be more readily seen by consumers (rather than stuffed into mailboxes and thrown away) -- a far better way to get us back to using paper bags just the way we used to before plastics bags were invented. Ferris bicycle

2009-12-16 20:56 - 0 Kommentarer

People don’t get enough exercise and people need energy so if you have lots of bicycles, a ferris wheel, cords, control booth, a energy storage and a lot of people/passersby you could make a ferris wheel that’s powered by bikes and than all of the the extra energy goes to a storage and then when the storage is filled (or mostly filled) a car comes and transports it to someplace that needs it!

Fortvna Foam

The concept for our project is simple, we want to make washing your hands fun by making it useful as well. Since its invention in 1946, the Magic Eight Ball has become a common household item which has helped thousands of different people make decisions about innumerable subjects, and which has held the fate of many events, some of which we dare not speculate. Ah, to be indecisive, and have a magic device to give you the answers to your questions.

A Good Clean Joke

2009-12-16 20:53 - 0 Kommentarer

By addressing the growing hazards of the H1N1, the common flu, and germs in general, A Good “Clean” Joke creates a fun and eye catching experience at an otherwise boring hand sanitizer station. Hand sanitizer stations have been popping up all over the world in public and private facilties alike. Unfortunaetly, they seem to have one major drawback… nobody uses them. Even in cafeteries, people eat their food without using designated hand cleaning stations less than fifteen feet away. A Good “Clean” jokes hopes to prevent this by supplying not just cleanliness, but laughter.

Relax Driving Game

On the cities huge traffic jam is very common, drivers have to wait long periods of time on their cars without being able to move, this causes a lot of stress that isn't healthy for the driver and the passengers. In fact is a period of time that they must wait, but what if we could change this situation, what if we could find a solution to this problem that affects people all over the world, people that have to face this problem on a daily basis.
What if they can move forward in spite of the cars, what if they can do it virtually, maybe playing a driving game!

Powertopia

2009-12-16 20:48 - 0 Kommentarer

We have become disconnected from the way we generate power and have allowed the use of fossil fuels to become a primary contributor to global warming. Powertopia is a fun, educational playground that teaches children and their parents about renewable energy, the principles of power generation and energy storage. By harnessing the energy that children naturally produce on playgrounds, we can develop their intuition of renewable energy principles. This can ultimately lead to a change in the way children interact with power and understand electricity. Inskickat av Oliver Haas

The Fun Reversible Vending Machine

1. This Fun Reversible Vending Machine looks like a regular RVM but with a computer screen and keyboards.

2. It operates like a game / social networking site, where users gets money in return for putting in recycled products and for correctly answering questions.

3. The questions are based on data from previous users, who when “playing” must; 1. put in a recycled product, 2. provide answer to a very basic fun facts question about oneself (like favorite color), and 3. correctly answer the fun fact question of the previous user.
